SBS 2008 RC0 is out and I’m very excited with everything I’ve seen so far. The server is 64 bit so I had to go and buy a new hard drive for my Intel Core 2 Duo test machine (which has 4GB of memory).
After reading a couple of documents about the new features, I decided to go through the step and join a Vista computer in the domain. The first difference between SBS 2003 and 2008 is that we don’t have to set up a computer account anymore. The wizard does that for us.
The second difference is that instead of typing http://servername/connectomputer , we now need to type http://connect. The process starts and the following are the screens I encountered while going through the process.

After successfully joining the computer to the domain, I clicked the plus ( + ) button the Windows Sidebar and selected to add a Gadget. I selected to add the ‘Windows Small Business Server Desktop Links’ gadget that is installed when the computer joins the domain.

The following picture shows the gadget on the Sidebar

Hi
I had trouble joining PC’s to the domain the normal way
I tried this method yesterday on RC1.
All is well and good until the configuration part of where I keep getting bad username or password which is what I was getting the normal way.
I cant figure it out, I am using the admin account username and password that I created on the initial setup but still gives the same error.
Any suggestions?
Hi Brett,
I didn’t try RC1 yet, maybe on the weekend, but I didn’t have the problem when I did this post. I have to say that I used a VM for the Vista, but I don’t think that is the issue.
You might want to try posting at the forums and see if anyone can help
I just set up a fresh RC1 too, and the http://connect doesn’t go anywhere, just a 404. If i go to http://connect.domain.local I get a nice IIS7 logo splash that takes me to Microsoft’s site if I click on it.
I’m using a VM for XP Pro to connect to SBS08 on another VM. I can ping just fine and do name resolution.
I’ll have to check that with RC1. Although I installed RC1 I didn’t create a new VM for a client computer yet so I can’t comment about your issue.
I’ll try to find some time and do that and I’ll post back
David,
I tried to reproduce your problem and I can’t. I run RC1 on a physical machine, with Microsoft Virtual Server R2 SP1 and I created a VM with XP Pro SP2. I run http://connect without issues.
It’s possible your problem has to do with the networking setup of the two VMs
